As a sales executive I am often asked my opinion about using Flash as a means to develop a web site. There are cases in which flash is the only way to properly display a products capability or accurately portray a message but, as you will see from reading the following quote from a member of the Google search quality team, Mark Berghausen explains why flash has it’s limitations when it comes to Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and should be used sparingly or in conjunction with an HTML based web site, not as a single entity. Again, this is from a member of the Google Search Quality Team….. » Read more: Best use of Flash in Web Design

Work Hard, Play Hard
July 5th, 2007The team at Delaware.net took a day off last week to celebrate the completion of several large projects. We reserved a racing limousine and headed north to Philadelphia for a day of bowling at the world-famous Lucky Strike bowling center. There were a few casualties along the way, namely a digital camera, two bowling balls and a glass but thats a topic for another article. The team had a blast and outside of one of the technical team members managing to roll 8 gutter balls in a row, we proved that a Delaware.net bowling team is not out of the realm of possibilities in the future. Team building and fellowship are key to providing a work atmosphere that is not only fun but productive and right now, Delaware.net has the best team of web professionals anywhere. Look forward to more fun events to be posted here soon!
Designing above… The Fold!?!
July 5th, 2007The Fold, often referring to the horizontal division of a newspaper, now pertains to the bottom of a web browser window that divides the web page into viewable and non-viewable sections. A highly debatable topic, designing a web page so that most or all of the important content is above the fold is a thing of the past. In the early days of the web most users felt that scrolling a lengthy page was unnatural. Beware of the social engineering threat to your company
July 1st, 2007Many firms believe that they are security conscious. Large portions of IT budgets are spent on adaptive firewalls, distributed virus scan software, intrusion detection systems, and other security related products. What all of these products fail to address is the human element, which is the weakest link in the security chain. In his observation of the state of physical security at the 2001 RSA (Rivest, Shamir, Adleman) conference, Kevin Mitnick noted: “you could spend a fortune purchasing technology and services… and your network could still remain vulnerable to old fashioned manipulation.†» Read more: Beware of the social engineering threat to your company

Color theory for web site design
July 1st, 2007“Color (or colour, see spelling differences) is the visual perceptual property corresponding in humans to the categories called red, yellow, white, etc. Color derives from the spectrum of light (distribution of light energy versus wavelength) interacting in the eye with the spectral sensitivities of the light receptors. The science of color is sometimes called chromatics. It includes the perception of color by the human eye and brain, the origin of color in materials, color theory in art, and the physics of electromagnetic radiation in the visible range (that is, what we commonly refer to simply as light).â€
