Adobe Launches Adobe Media Player (AMP)

YouTube wouldn’t be possible without Adobe Flash. Plain and simple.

Finally, Adobe has gotten tired of watching Apple iTunes and Google’s YouTube (we call it GooTube for fun) get all of the media coverage. So they just released their new video player, named AMP. Adobe was smart to embed the new AMP player with downloads of its ubiquitous Acrobat Reader. So the next time you upgrade Acrobat, you will have an option to get AMP with it.

You can download the free AMP player here: http://get.adobe.com/amp/

Adobe has partnered with MTV, FoodTV, CBS, Comedy Central, HGTV, and many other publishers to put streaming TV shows into the player. I am very impressed with the video quality, but some videos are larger (height and width) than others, and some have the volume up louder than others. MTV’s movies are VERY small, while HGTV’s videos look gorgeous.

Nonetheless, there is a lot to like here, and the list of publishers partnering with Adobe is sure to grow, as they have embedded copyright protection into the player.

Take a look at the new AMP player, and tell me what you think.

So far I have been very impressed, as more content providers take notice, the other video-on-demand providers will be in big trouble. Much like the newly release Adobe Photoshop Express, the interface is brain dead simple to use and free from clutter. I really hope that the big national news networks, NBC, Fox, CBS, MSNBC etc, etc, start participating by providing live, streaming coverage. There is a lot of advertising revenue to be had here. Big thumbs-up from me adobe, good job.
